Our story
How an IT company got into the event business
We didn't start out as meeting planners. We started by fixing the technology at events nobody else could keep online.
For more than a decade Tech Plus has supported Bay Area organizations, including nonprofits that run large, volunteer-driven conventions. We came in to handle their technology. But once you're the person on site at 2 a.m. getting registration back online, you start seeing everything else that goes wrong at an event.
The biggest pain was internet. At hotel and convention venues, the only option was usually the venue's exclusive in-house provider (often Encore), with quotes in the thousands of dollars for a single show. For a nonprofit, that can be the difference between breaking even and losing money.
So we built our own. Our bonded event internet kit combines multiple 5G cellular connections with Starlink satellite into one fast, resilient connection. When the dish needs clear sky and the event is deep inside a building, a long-range sub-GHz point-to-point radio link carries the signal from the roof or parking lot into the hall. No venue network, no per-device fees, no single point of failure.
From there, our nonprofit clients asked us to help with the hotels themselves. We started negotiating their contracts and room blocks, and today we book hundreds of thousands of dollars in hotel room nights each year at properties including the DoubleTree by Hilton San Jose and the Fairmont San Francisco. We became IATAN-accredited so we could contract with hotels directly, and we now partner with major brands including Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt and Fairmont to book hotels anywhere in the world that accepts IATA-accredited agencies.

What does IATAN-accredited mean?
IATAN is the International Airlines Travel Agent Network, the US accreditation arm of IATA. Accreditation lets hotels recognize Tech Plus as a professional travel agency and contract with us directly.
What does it cost?
Typically nothing. Our hotel services are commission-only: hotels pay a commission to the accredited agency on contracted rooms. Events with special needs, such as custom tech, on-site staffing or extra coordination, are quoted separately. We are upfront about how we are paid before you sign anything.
Do you book flights?
No. We focus on hotels, room blocks and meeting space. Attendees book their own air.
Where can you book hotels?
Anywhere in the world that accepts IATA-accredited agencies. We partner with major brands including Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt and Fairmont.
Do you only work with nonprofits?
No. That is where we started, but we work with associations, companies and conventions of all kinds.
How big an event can you handle?
From a 20-person board retreat to multi-day conventions with large hotel room blocks.
Can you take over a contract we already signed?
Often, yes. We can review it and manage the block from here, and in many cases the hotel can add us as the agency of record. Ask us.
